BBC Chloe viewers disappointed by 'lame' and 'predictable' ending of Bristol drama

After a thrilling journey of obsession and deceit, psychological thriller Chloe has left some fans "disappointed" with its ending.

Set and filmed in Bristol, Chloe follows Becky Green (Erin Doherty) as she obsesses over Chloe Fairbourne's (Poppy Gilbert) picture perfect life on social media, which contrasts so starkly with Chloe's dull reality of having to care for her mum. When Chloe suddenly dies, Becky believes she has the right to get to the bottom of what happened, and infiltrates her dead obsession's circle of closest friends.

The first episode of the six-part drama aired on the BBC on February 6, and although the last episode is not set to hit our screens until Sunday, February 20, some viewers have finished the show already by watching ahead on iPlayer.

Among those who have watched ahead, it seems that many viewers have been left disappointed by the ending of Chloe. Some have taken to social media to express their outrage at the "lame" and "predictable" finale.

Nikki said on Twitter: "Just finished watching the BBC1 drama Chloe. I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about it but it definitely didn't quite pan out how I thought it would based on the trailer I guess the ending was a little predictable perhaps?" Meanwhile, Carol Yates tweeted: "'Chloe'… what a lame ending?"

Although the ending of the drama has come under fire, fans of the show have praised the work of the actors involved, especially Erin Doherty. Mark Ludmon said: "Reached the end of Alice Seabright’s thriller Chloe on @BBCiPlayer. Tense and nerve-racking but with a slightly inconclusive ending. A great cast led by Erin Doherty. It cleverly captures the feelings of social anxiety and imposter syndrome."

Jackie P said: "Right, I've watched all of #Chloe. Worked out fairly early what was going to be the twist and the ending was a bit lame, but it was good otherwise. Erin Doherty was bloody great #review"

Although a lot of fans stayed until the end, some viewers found the show "confusing". Jumping Jack Flask reviewed the series by saying: "I’ve just watched all 6 episodes of the BBC drama ‘Chloe’ & I can report that I have never seen a tv series that was so confusing. It looked as if all the players were allowed to write there own script without as they went along. What a load of total c**p."

Meanwhile, Katrina Bradshaw said: "Ok, this has gone past the point of 'entertainment' and is confusing as hell. Not sure I can persevere with this one. #chloe."

Chloe was filmed on location in Bristol in 2021, with the help of the Bristol Film Office. Locations used in filming include: A Bond Warehouse near Cumberland Basin (which provided the setting for a nightclub), M Shed on Princes Wharf, The Arches industrial estate in St Philips and Picton Street in Montpelier.

Numerous other Bristol locations were also used, including the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel on College Green, the exterior of St George’s Hall on Great George Street, Bristol Beacon, the Royal West Academy on Queen’s Road, The Forge in Colston Yard, Bar 44 in Clifton, Bristol’s harbourside, the Quay Street Diner and a private residence on Fernbank Road in Redland.
