BBC Call the Midwife stars spill on-set secrets

Call the Midwife stars Ella Bruccoleri and Megan Cusack have revealed they have a "bit too much fun" behind the scenes of the hit BBC show.

Ella, who plays Sister Frances, and Megan, who has joined as newcomer Nurse Nancy, appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Friday, January 28 to talk about filming the 11th series of the drama, now set in the '60s, and their off-screen friendship.

The pair spoke about how their characters have evolved since joining the show and Ella said the addition of Nurse Nancy to Nonnatus House has "changed" Sister Frances from her once shy and timid character.

Despite only joining the show in 2018, Sister Frances has become a firm fan favourite and has been at the centre of many emotional storylines.

During the interview with Lorraine Kelly, Ella let slip that the duo occasionally get in to trouble on set and have a range of ways to keep themselves busy between takes on set.

"I think Nancy's changed her [Sister Frances]." Ella explained.

To which Lorraine added: "I do, they get on really well and you two get on so well in real life too."

"We do. We can say that without having to lie!" Ella added: "We literally do get on really well. We have a fun time on set don't we? A bit too much fun."

"Do you? Do you get into trouble sometimes?" Lorraine asked.

"Yeah," Ella quickly replied before the both burst into laughter.

"I've not noticed. I didn't think we did?" Megan, 24, who joined the cast last year added: "I thought we were under the radar?"

Ella added: "You know when you see everyone's eyes sort of looking at you like you shouldn't be doing what you're doing, but no one says it to you.

Megan added: "Yeah maybe, it's just fierce giggling and then all sorts of accents."

"Lots of boxing, we both like boxing. We spar. A nun and a midwife going head to head... most days. We just both like fighting." Ella laughed.

"I think it's just like playing about, especially like you're on set for so many hours, you're of course keeping yourself energised." Megan added.

Series 11 of Call the Midwife continues on Sunday, January 30 on BBC One from 8pm.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV and ITV Hub.
