BBC Breakfast viewers blast Harry Hill's 'creepy' car crash interview with puppet

BBC Breakfast viewers have branded Harry Hill's latest interview 'car crash' television.

The comedian was welcomed on the famous red sofa by presenter Victoria Fritz to chat about his return to stand-up comedy but his companion — a puppet named Gary — did not sit well with some who tuned in for the show.

Viewers were expecting the news broadcaster to be focusing their coverage on the Conservative leadership race and were far from impressed with the BBC daytime offering.

The You've Been Framed host admitted: "I am not a trained ventriloquist Victoria but it's been a lot of fun and Gary does some of his jokes [in the stand-up show]."

One viewer said the interview was 'much better on mute' (BBC)

The former Doctor continued: "I thought I should just be silly, so I am just a bit silly for two hours.

"Anyone coming to the show and expecting an exposé or an in-depth look at the political scene won't get that I am afraid.

"There is a bit of rolling around on the floor with a long sock on as well as a baby elephant."

Victoria later labelled Gary 'creepy' (BBC)

Harry then compared being a comedian to being an athlete before he joked about his puppet "taking over the business".

Disgruntled viewers took to Twitter to vent their frustrations over the interview which was deemed a "car crash".

One viewer fumed: "Car crash TV. Get him off - and her. #bbcbreakfast."

Another added: "Please get Harry Hill off my TV screen now, please! #BBCbreakfast."

A third quipped: "Harry Hill is much better on Mute lol #BBCBreakfast." (sic)

At one point Victoria even admitted she found Gary, 'creepy' and was glad it wasn't sat next to her.

When Victoria asked Harry about his thoughts on the politicians in the running to become the next prime minister, the comedian told the presenter: "I allocate people into two groups tray-bakes or tears-and-shares."

To which Victoria, lost for words, appeared to have nothing to say except 'ok'.

Another viewer posted on Twitter: "What the HECK is the interview with Harry Hill - car crash TV," while a fourth added: "That Harry Hill interview on BBC Breakfast was... bizarre."
