BBC Breakfast's Victoria Fritz explains why she has changed her name

BBC Breakfast presenter Victoria Fritz has revealed why she has changed her name in a candid message to fans.

On this morning's show, Victoria presented the news alongside Jon Kay. But upon introducing herself, Victoria used the surname 'Valentine' instead of 'Fritz'.

This caused confusion among some viewers who took to Twitter. One user said: "Anyone surprised by Victoria Fritz name change? What's that about?"

Chris added: "Victoria Fritz introducing herself as Victoria Valentine?" Benn Westwood said: "Was #VictoriaFritz introduced as Victoria Valentine on @BBCBreakfast this morning??"

And Robert Rea tweeted: "Victoria Valentine, eh? That’s quite the superheroine name." Responding to the queries, Victoria tweeted a link to her blog with a message. She said: "Hello. You may notice a little change today. If you are wondering why, here are a few words."

In a blog post, Victoria said she had changed her name following the breakdown of her marriage to Dan Fritz. Victoria said: "The reasons for the breakdown of my marriage are private.

"And, as I’ve discovered, via the inordinate number of conversations, apps, books, social media feeds, podcasts, seminars, webinars and every other resource I’ve exhausted in an entirely clichéd Millennial bid to grapple with my world dissolving, those reasons no longer define me.

"Call me old fashioned, but airing dirty laundry is undignified at the best of times. Plus, I have two wonderful young children to consider.

"Protecting their wellbeing and right to a private life will always be my priorities. Yet, however private I wish to keep my private life, there is an aspect of it that will always remain as much in public hands as it is in my own. And that is my name."

Victoria said she would now take her "Dubliner mother’s name" instead of her maiden name "in tribute to the Irish strength and solidarity".
