Carol Kirkwood delighted BBC Breakfast viewers on Monday when she announced her engagement to her 'mystery' boyfriend, having been pushed to share her big news by colleague Sally Nugent.
With Dan Walker officially now out of the building, it was the hot favourite to land his hosting job, Jon Kay, who was again sat alongside Sally on the famous red couch and was by her side as the camera switched to much loved member of the BBC team, Carol, who was live on location from the Chelsea Flower Show.
Wasting no time in trying to get the former Strictly contestant to spill the beans, Sally said to her: "I don't know how you're managing to stand up with that big rock on your left hand Carol!" Turning rather shy, Carol laughed before showing off her engagement sparkler as Sally shouted "Congratulations from all of us," down the lens.

The presenter added: "It's the happiest news. We are so, so delighted. Congratulations," before putting Carol on the spot and asking: "Can we confirm to the nation what has happened?" Staying rather coy, Carol thanked Sally before joking: "I think you just have Sal!"
She continued: "Yes we're engaged. We got engaged when we were on holiday. It's lovely news and we're both thrilled, so thank you." Jumping in, Jon told her: "We're thrilled. We're so chuffed for you Carol. On behalf of the whole team and everyone watching at home I'm sure. We're absolutely delighted."
Carol later went into more detail on how the engagement to her partner, who has stayed out of the limelight, happened, explaining: "We went out for a picnic; I had absolutely no idea. The weather was glorious, we were sitting chatting and then./..my other half was a wee bit nervous for some reason which I didn't know. And he was fumbling in his pocket and then out came a ring. I thought he was joking actually!"
