BBC Breakfast presenter forced to dive off camera after tech mishap live on air

BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst was forced to dive off camera after a technical mishap disrupted an interview this morning on the programme.

The BBC morning programme saw Nina present a segment from Leigh Spinners Mill in Manchester, as she spoke with a number of locals who were disappointed by the news that Liz Truss had triumphed in the leadership race to become the next Prime Minister.

Nina, 41, had just welcomed her guests on BBC Breakfast when her microphone battery pack slipped out of the back of her trousers, forcing her to dive off camera.

As the TV presenter briefly disappeared out of shot to retrieve it from the floor, the cameraman moved past her to try and conceal the brief mishap.

Nina returned to the screen and apologised to her guests, saying: “Oh excuse me, sorry about that Les, my battery pack has just fallen out.”

She then carried on with the interview, with the three of them forced to share a single microphone.

Nina's mishap didn't go unnoticed by colleague Jon Kay, who was once again hosting the show live from Downing Street.

He joked: “Nina, for now, thank you very much. If you need a microphone Nina, I reckon there's about 855 here because the media from around the world are here so we'll whizz one to you.”

Jon had been at Downing Street for Monday's show as well ahead of the results of the Conservative Leadership race, leaving co-host Sally Nugent presenting alone in the studio.

It came after the programme suffered a major technical problem earlier this summer, when BBC Breakfast was taken off air after tech equipment collapsed on set.

The show had been due to begin at 6am, but was replaced by The Travel Show due to technical issues. It returned at the later start of 7am, with Roger Johnson, 53, and Sima Kotecha, 42, hosting the programme.

While neither presenter referred to the incident during the show, they addressed the situation on Twitter.

Sharing a photo of three members of crew surrounding monitors on a desk, Roger tweeted: "Running repairs to BBC Breakfast computers … while you’re enjoying The Travel Show! Back online for 7am."

Quizzed on whether he had split coffee over the computer again, he replied with crying laughing emojis and wrote: "... in truth, the makeshift mini music stand, which holds the screen, collapsed!"

Sima also shared photos of the incident as crew urgently made repairs, tweeting: “Lovely to be back with Roger .. it’s been a while. And thanks to these lads for their last minute DIY after laptop collapse - eek!”
