BBC Breakfast identify familiar face to fill void left by departing Dan Walker

BBC Breakfast has reportedly identified the individual they want to fill the void left by the departing Dan Walker. The 45-year-old will exit the show for good on Tuesday (May 17) switching over to Channel 5.

BirminghamLive reports his replacement will be Jon Kay, who has been with the BBC breakfast presenting team since 2010.

The Daily Star, which first reported Jon would be taking over Dan's role, spoke to Alex Apati of Ladbrokes. Mr Apati said: “It’s looking increasingly likely that BBC chiefs have found Dan Walker’s replacement.

"And he’s no stranger to the Breakfast family, with Jon Kay pulling away from the chasing pack. Gethin Jones was favourite to get the gig once upon a time but has seen his odds drift over the last few days, and it now looks as though it’s Kay’s role if he wants it.”

Other BBC Breakfast stars include Nina Warhurst, Sally Nugent, Naga Munchetty, Carol Kirkwood and Charlie Stayt. Dan announced his exit earlier this year.

“I’m going to go and do the news on Channel 5,” he told BBC Breakfast viewers. “But also make loads of new really exciting programmes. It’s a fantastic opportunity and new challenges in life are always good. And if you can grab them and do them to the best of your ability, you see what happens next don’t you.”

“I love working alongside Sally and I love the team there,” he added. “But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans. And I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often. And I can’t wait.”
