BBC Bloodlands: Start time, cast, location and how many episodes

Another drama to return this autumn is the BBC's Bloodlands. With James Nesbitt in the lead role of DCI Tom Brannick, Bloodlands is back for a second series.

Bloodlands will return on Sunday, September 18 where the murder of a crooked accountant unravels a trail of greed that threatens to expose his identity as the legendary assassin, Goliath, DCI Tom, and the accountant’s widow, Olivia must keep each other dangerously close.

The series first aired in 2021 where it was a huge hit, gaining millions of viewers. The second series slightly leads on from the first series and here is everything you need to know.

When does Bloodlands start?

The first episode of Bloodlands will air on BBC One on Sunday, September 18 at 9pm. Each episode is an hour long.

Who is in the Bloodlands cast?

Some old and new cast members are returning to Bloodlands for the second series.

James Nesbitt as DCI Tom Brannick: Back in the lead role of DCI Tom Brannick is James Nesbitt. James is known for his roles in Cold Feet and Murphy's Law.

Charlene McKenna as DS Niamh McGovern: Also back in the second series is Charlene McKenna as DS Niamh McGovern. Previously Charlene has starred in Peaky Blinders and BBC psychological thriller Vienna Blood.

Lorcan Cranitch as DCS Jackie Twomey: Lorcan Cranitch will play DCS Jackie Twomey. He has starred in Hornblower, alongside Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd, and in New Tricks.

Lola Petticrew as Izzy: In the role of Tom's daughter is Lola Petticrew as Izzy. Lola has starred in the films A Bump Along the Way and Dating Amber.

Chris Walley as DC 'Birdy' Bird: In the role of DC 'Birdy' Bird is Chris Walley. He has previously starred in The Young Offenders and the 2019 film 1917.

Victoria Smurfit is joining the series (PA)

Victoria Smurfit as Olivia Foyle: A new character to Bloodlands for series two is Olivia Foyle, played by Victoria Smurfit. Victoria is known for her roles in Once Upon a Time and starred in Around the World in 80 days.

Where was Bloodlands filmed?

The storyline for Bloodlands is set in Northern Ireland and features a mainly Irish and Northern Irish cast. The drama is filmed in Belfast and surrounding areas including Strangford Lough.

James Nesbitt said: "It’s brilliant to be back filming in Northern Ireland and reunited with the gang for the second series of Bloodlands."

How many episodes of Bloodlands are there?

There will be six episodes in the second series of Bloodlands, which is two more than the first series. The episodes are an hour long and series two of Bloodlands will begin at 9pm on BBC One on Sunday, September 18.

The second episode will air on Sunday, September 25 at 9pm on BBC One.
