Viewers of the BBC's Big Night of Musicals shared the same complaint on social media as they pleaded: "Please tell me m I'm wrong!" Following a triumphant show in Manchester last year, the stars from a range of different musicals all came back together under the same roof for another spectacular night of entertainment.
The show, which took place at the AO Arena last month with Jason Manford as host, was put on by the National Lottery as a way of saying thank you to lottery players for the amazing support they gave to tens of thousands of arts projects and over 2000 theatres during the pandemic.
After taking place live in the city last month, those who weren't lucky enough to get a seat at the arena were given the chance to see 13 incredible West End and touring musicals in the same show as it aired on BBC One on Saturday night (March 25).

It included performances from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, Les Misérables,We Will Rock You the Musical, Wicked, SIX the Musical, Ain’t Too Proud, The Bodyguard and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s THE KING AND I. There was also a special performance from Aspects of Love featuring Michael Ball.
But as the series of show-stopping performances unfolded, BBC viewers couldn't help but share their thoughts on social media with some claiming they 'couldn't watch'. @Tombenoly tweeted: "Can’t watch due to the miming #BigNightOfMusicals."
@JonOrton commented: "#BigNightOfMusicals Great stuff so far!! Although, is it just me, or was the cast of Ain’t Too Proud doing a bit of miming? Either that or a dubbing error in the recording… They’re all amazing performers. Wonder why they took that decision." @Crohnoid shared: "Watching “The Big Night of Musicals” and either the sound is out of sync or, surely not, some of the singers are miming. Please tell me that I’m wrong! #BigNightOfMusicals."
To which @KazzyC63 replied: "We have Sky Glass and for something like this, the sound is always slightly out of synch to the mouth movement. But saying that there have been a few acts tonight who seem to be resting their voices ;-)." While @125f8 shared: "Come on @BBCOne audio out of sync for #michaelball #BigNightofMusicals."
However, others were thrilled with the show and shared their supportive messages. @LisxJB tweeted: "A massive thank you to everyone involved #BigNightOfMusicals My elderly parents with dementia have complained about everything on tv since 9am this morning but both just sang & smiled through the entire show! I can’t tell you what that was like they loved it. @JasonManford."
@RyanTheSoapking shared: "Just caught up on #BigNightOfMusicals on @BBCOne. WOW! What a stunning and beautiful piece of television. I smiled from start to finish and my heart was glowing throughout. @JasonManford was the perfect host as well. Great programme for a Saturday night." @Wee_Westie29 replied: "#BigNightOfMusicals should be a regular thing on Saturday nights."
