BBC Better's Charley Webb's new life after Emmerdale from business closure to family plans and new roles

Former Emmerdale star Charley Webb will star in her first major TV role since her departure from the Dales tonight, as she takes on the role of Elise in brand new BBC drama Better.

Charley, who is best known for her role as Debbie Dingle in the ITV soap, has spent much of the last few years at home raising her three children but now she is returning to our screens in a whole new light.

And while it's a brand new role for Charley, she won't feel too out of place as the drama is based and filmed in and around Leeds.

It comes two years after Charley's character Debbie last appeared on Emmerdale back in February 2021, after the actress returned from maternity leave just a few months earlier.

The former foap star officially confirmed her departure on Instagram in January 2022, telling her followers: "This is always my most asked question but I've never answered it before because I've never wanted to make a big deal of it.

"I left to have Ace 2 years ago. I went back at the end of last year for 10 weeks to complete a storyline. So, I guess officially it's been a year. I never felt the need to announce it which is why we didn't."

Charley was snapped later that year filming for a new project for ITV alongside Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly. The 34-year-old was seen wearing a police uniform while filming scenes on-location for an upcoming drama about the Yorkshire Ripper.

The new show 'The Long Shadow', which will air later this year will delve into one of the most notorious and shocking serial killer cases in the world, the hunt for Peter Sutcliffe, dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper, between October 1975 and January 1981.

Charley teased her involvement in the show last year, as she posed for a selfie and told her fans: "Costume fitting today for my new job. I’m excited for the next 2 projects I’m filming over the summer and to get back on screen."

It seems Charley's acting career is going from strength to strength, however, the star has recently had to make some changes to allow for throwing herself back in to TV work alongside caring for her young family.

Charley recently announced the closure of her "dream business", a Scandinavian-inspired handcrafted toy store, Nordi Babi, as she revealed they don't have the time to do it justice anymore.

The mum-of-three posted to Instagram: "I’ve loved this chapter and the journey it’s taken us on but we just don’t have the time to run it the way we want to."

Charley and her husband Matthew met on the set of Emmerdale in 2007, Matthew and Charley started dating, with the pair getting engaged two years later on Christmas Day in 2009.

A year later in 2020, Matthew and Charley became parents for the first time, with Charley giving birth to a baby boy called Buster. The couple went on to welcome two other sons, Bowie Grey in 2015 and Ace in 2019.

Charley and Matthew tied the knot in a secret ceremony after they tricked friends and families into believing the celebration was for Charley's 30th birthday. Charley has former co-stars Lucy Pargeter and Emma Atkins acting as bridesmaids.

The happy family live in a gorgeous house in Yorkshire and have not ruled out the possibility of a fourth child. In a question and answer session with her fans on Instagram, the star shared her future family plans as she told fans it's not the right time at the moment to be thinking about another baby.
