BBC bosses have axed the Jordan Banjo series Eat Well for Less and another celebrity-fronted show in a major shake up.
The broadcaster said it was a “difficult decision” but the move was needed to “make way” for new programmes, resulting in the hit BBC One shows Eat Well for Less - fronted by Jordan - and Shop Well for Less being dropped.
Eat Well for Less was originally presented by Chris Bavin and Gregg Wallace when it debuted in 2015, and helped families who were massively overspending on their weekly food shops save hundreds of pounds.
Jordan, who shot to fame after winning Britain's Got Talent with Diversity in 2009, was then hired as the show’s new co-presenter alongside Chris in 2021, after Gregg left the show to pursue other interests.
Now, the duo travel around the UK speaking with families who are struggling to eat well on a budget amid rising food costs.
During the show, Jordan and Chris supervise what the families buy in their weekly food shops, and offer up cheaper alternatives in an effort to save them much-needed cash.
As well as Eat Well for Less, the BBC has also axed Shop Well for Less, which was presented by former Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page and Melanie Sykes.
In the show, the women would focus on people’s shopping habits, and encourage them to make better, affordable choices without sacrificing their lifestyle, as well as helping families declutter their wardrobes in a bid to make some extra cash.
The show was originally hosted by Alex Jones and Steph McGovern.
According to TVZone, the BBC has dropped both shows with “no plans” to bring them back in the future.
“Sometimes we have to make difficult decisions in order to make way for new shows and we currently have no plans to bring back Eat Well For Less or Shop Well For Less,” a spokesperson told the publication in a statement.
“We would like to thank the team at RDF West who produced both series, and presenters Chris Bavin and Jordan Banjo, and Joanna Page and Melanie Sykes, for all their hard work and enthusiasm bringing these shows to our screens,” they added.
The news comes just days after it was announced the BBC had axed the third instalment of the hugely successful drama saga Life on Mars.
The show, starring John Simm and Philip Glenister, debuted in 2006 to critical acclaim, and a second instalment Ashes to Ashes was released in 2008 and ran for three series until 2010.
A third instalment - named Lazarus - had been announced in 2020, but the show’s creators Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah shared the sad news on Twitter that despite filming the pilot, the project had been scrapped due to “financial hurdles”.
