BBC announcer apologises to Peaky Blinders fans over glitch during crucial moment

Peaky Blinders fans thought their TV had broken when the BBC suffered a technical glitch during a crucial moment.

In the latest episode, which aired on Sunday night, Cillian Murphy’s character Tommy Shelby was given some devastating news.

The episode opened with a heartbreaking funeral scene which showed him saying goodbye to daughter Ruby, who died from consumption earlier on in the series.

Viewers have watched as Tommy has also battled ill health during the sixth and final season of the hit show.

He visited a doctor after wife Lizzie found him having a seizure on the floor, and has also been suffering from hallucinations.

In episode four, we learned Tommy has been diagnosed with a life-threatening tuberculoma on the base of his skull.

But some fans missed the big reveal due to technical glitches throughout Sunday’s episode.

Peaky Blinder fans took to Twitter to voice their anger they missed the crucial scene due to technical glitches.

One wrote: “Is my TV broken?? What’s going on.”

“Bro what is BBC doing. My TV just turned off out of nowhere,” said another.

“Is there a reason #PeakyBlinders is skipping and freezing? I’m watching online through the iPlayer app so it’s not a TV aerial issue.”

A fourth joked: “#peakyblinders I will curse all your TV signals.”

It was so bad, a BBC announcer was forced to apologise for the error as the episode’s final credits were shown.

Series six is the final season of Peaky Blinders (BBC)

Main character Tommy was told he has just 12 to 18 months to live after being diagnosed with the deadly condition.

A tuberculoma is a type of tuberculosis which conglomerates tubercules into a firm lump. It looks like a tumour and can be confused with cancer, but is equally deadly.

Throughout series six we have heard the voice of Tommy’s Aunt Polly, who has warned him: “There will be a war in this family, and one of you will die.”

It remains to be seen whether a family member or enemy will kill Tommy or the tuberculoma.

Helen McCrory, who played Aunt Polly, sadly died last year (BBC)

Offscreen aunt Polly actress Helen McCrory sadly died from breast cancer in real life at the age of 52 last April.

In a heartbreaking statement, her husband Damian Lewis wrote: "I'm heartbroken to announce that after a heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family."

He added: "She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you."

Helen had been married to fellow actor Damian since 2007 and shared two children with him.
