Penarth school Ysgol y Deri has shared their “hurt” after thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of watersports equipment in 2021. As BBC Wales docu-series, A Special School, continues, staff talk about how they've coped following the traumatic incident and also, how grateful they are for the mass support they've received.
“It was really difficult for us all. For the staff, for the pupils to lose all of that equipment, it really hurts when that happens,” says headmaster Chris Britten. Read more about the incident, itself, here.
Chris adds: “What a fantastic response from the general public. From everywhere, from across the country and actually, from people all over the world, incredibly.” Following the robbery, Ysgol y Deri managed to raise funds of around £10,000 to replace what had been taken.
