Bazzana scoreless in Guardians' MLB loss to the Yankees

Travis Bazzana's Cleveland Guardians have lost 3-2 against the New York Yankees, with the Australian former No.1 MLB overall draft pick striking out twice in his four at bats.

Bazzana recorded one walk but no hits or RBIs as the AL Central-leading Guardians fell after Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered leading off the eighth inning on Tuesday night (Wednesday AEST).

Spencer Jones also went deep with his first major league home run for the Yankees, who have won three straight and are 10-4 since May 24.

The 23-year-old Bazzana did contribute a key play in the field for Cleveland, sliding to his left to stop the ball before throwing to first to secure the innings-ending out with runners on first and third and the score at 2-2 in the 4th inning.

Cleveland's Angel Martínez had two hits and an RBI. The Guardians have dropped three straight and five of six. They are also 2-6 in their last eight home games.

Chisholm once again used one of Aaron Judge's bats and drove a full-count slider from reliever Tim Herrin (0-2) into the right-field stands to put the Yankees on top. It was his third homer in his past six games.

Up next, Yankees LHP Carlos Rodón (1-2, 2.88 ERA) faces Guardians LHP Parker Messick (6-2, 2.40) in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon (Thursday AEST).

In San Francisco, Australia's Curtis Mead had three at-bats for zero hits or RBIs, but his Washington Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants 6-3.

Luis García Jr. launched a two-run homer, Jacob Young scored a pivotal run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning and the Nationals secured a fifth consecutive road series win for the first time since 2014.

Jung Hoo Lee singled and doubled with two RBIs for the Giants to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, the longest active run in the majors. Bryce Eldridge added his third home run of the season.

One day after scoring three times in the ninth to stun San Francisco in the series opener, the Nationals led the entire game following García's homer in the first inning. But they couldn't shake the Giants until a late surge in the seventh.

Young started it with a leadoff single against Erik Miller. Wood singled and pinch-hitter Andrés Chapparo walked to load the bases before Miller threw a pitch that skipped past catcher Daniel Susac. Young sprinted home and scored with a headfirst slide.

Daylen Lile drew a bases-loaded walk and the Nationals held on for their 23rd road victory, tied with Atlanta for most in the majors.
