That’s all from me. Thanks for reading and for your emails. Congratulations to Bayern and commiserations to Madrid. Roll on the semi-finals! Bye!
A reminder that Harry Kane scored his 50th club goal of the season this evening, the first Englishman to reach that tally since Tom ‘Pongo’ Waring (for Aston Villa) in 1930-31. Here is the Bayern and England striker, talking to TNT Sports:
I feel amazing. It was tough, Madrid have a special connection to this competition. Obviously we got off to the worst start possible, but we got stronger as the game went on – I think we were better physically. I think scoring 50 goals is a reward for the way I’m playing but I just want to help the team in any way I can, goals, assists, whatever. We look forward to the semi-final.
Kane is the current favourite to win the Ballon d’Or and you can see why. All those goals, while Bayern are certain to win the Bundesliga, are still in the mix for the Champions League and could yet win something with Englan … don’t say it! Don’t say it!
A reminder that there were some in Germany who were not convinced about the striker when he arrived in 2023 from Tottenham.
