Bayern Munich dealt major blow as key figure set for Champions League suspension

Suspended: Vincent Kompany - (Getty Images)

Bayern Munich will not have Vincent Kompany on the touchline for their Champions League semi-final after the Belgian picked up a suspension.

The Bayern boss was yellow carded during his side’s rollercoaster 4-3 win over Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Bayern arrived back home with a 2-1 advantage over the 15-time champions after Luis Diaz and Harry Kane had struck at the Santiago Bernabeu.

But they saw that advantage disappear inside 45 seconds after Manuel Neuer gifted Arda Guler the opener.

Aleksandar Pavlovic levelled before Guler struck again from a free kick, but Harry Kane cancelled out the Turkish international’s second of the game.

Kylian Mbappe put Madrid level on aggregate once more as he finished a clinical counter attack, but Luis Diaz and Michael Olise had the last laughs, with the former Premier League duo producing superb strikes to down Real and send Bayern into the semis.

They will face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the last four, but Kompany will not be on the sideline for the first leg after he picked up a yellow card against Madrid.

The former Manchester City defender was booked for his protests in the wake of Mbappe’s goal, which was allowed to stand despite Bayern defender Josip Stanisic going down injured.

Kompany was outraged that play was not stopped, and he let his fury get the better of him as he hounded the fourth official.

As such, he will not be able to communicate with his players in the first leg against Paris, which will take place on Tuesday, April 28 at the Parc des Princes.

Arsenal face Atletico Madrid in the other semi-final after Mikel Arteta’s men scraped through 1-0 on aggregate against Sporting Lisbon.
