Bayern Munich chief names Man City star Erling Haaland as example of new 'discrepancy'

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has named Manchester City star Erling Haaland as an example of how far behind his side's division is to the English top flight.

Haaland decided to switch from the Bundesliga to the Premier League in the summer and his performances since the move have been making many teams around Europe rather jealous. In just 12 competitive appearances for City, the 22-year-old has already managed to bag 19 goals and appears to be breaking records every time he steps onto the pitch.

When Kahn was asked by Sports Bild about the prolific Norwegian striker, the former Germany international goalkeeper was quick to praise Haaland before making an important point regarding the differences between the two top divisions.

"We don’t need to discuss Haaland’s quality, what I also like about him is his mentality," he explained. "Haaland is a typical striker who goes onto the pitch with only one thought: I want to score goals.

"This also distinguishes Robert Lewandowski. Strikers like the two only see their happiness in that.

"Now he has 14 goals in eight league games with Manchester City. He’s in top form.

"When I think about the topic of Haaland, I have to think about the discrepancy between the Bundesliga and the Premier League. It’s not just about the difference in TV revenue, but also that Manchester City is a club backed by investors who have exorbitant opportunities.

"If we want to keep up, we as a club, but also as the Bundesliga as a whole, have to give it a lot of thought. But that’s exactly what we’re already doing."
