Bayern Munich chief addresses Harry Kane speculation as Tottenham contract crisis looms

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has denied claims that the German giants approached Tottenham Hotspur marksman Harry Kane in the summer.

The England captain was subject to speculation linking him with a move away from north London. With Robert Lewandowski eyeing a move to Barcelona, rumours of an Allianz Arena move for Kane began circulating, with the forward's contract in its final year.

Last summer saw Manchester City move for Kane but Spurs wouldn't budge on their valuation and the Citizens were forced to shop elsewhere, spending £100m on Jack Grealish from Aston Villa instead.

The links intensified when manager Julian Nagelsmann lauded the 29-year-old during the summer window. The former RB Leipzig head coach said: "He’s very expensive that’s the problem – but brilliant player, one of two or three who can play as a centre forward [as well as a] No 10, but he’s very strong, brilliant with [his] head and both feet.

"He could score a lot in the Bundesliga, I don’t know the price, but it’s really tough for Bayern Munich. We’ll see what happens in the future."

However, Salihamidzic has moved to deny reports suggesting that an approach was made to representatives of the player from the record Bundesliga holders.

"I haven’t spoken to anyone in Harry Kane’s camp," he told German news outlet Sport1. "We have faith in our players. Serge [Gnabry], Sadio [Mane], [Eric Maxim] Choupo-Moting and also [Mathys] Tel.

"These are guys who should grow into it. We have eight players for four positions. In the end you have to see what the market has to offer and we didn’t find anyone is better than what was already in our squad."
