Battersea Dogs and Cats Home celebrates its unique residents on International Cat Day

Every year on August 8, the world comes together to celebrate humans’ adorable, furry feline companion, the cat.

To mark the occasion, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, the charity that welcomes and cares for thousands of felines each year, has decided to share some of its most unique cat residents of 2023.

Talking about their kitty residents, the Cattery Team Leader, Bradley Tovell said: “Every cat is an individual with their own personality, and the cats at Battersea are no different. From felines with thumbs to kindles of kittens, we see cats of all shapes, sizes, and ages who are looking for their perfect homes.

“Here at Battersea, we hope that pet owners will join us in celebrating this International Cat Day by championing their own cats’ quirks.”

Here are some of the animal rescue centre’s most distinctive cat residents that joined the roster in 2023.

Dinx

Dinx loves playtime and exploring the outdoors. (Battersea Dogs & Cats Home)

This one-year-old kitty cat is much smaller than a typical cat with a weight of just two kilos, but his personality makes up for it!

Dinx adores playtime and once he’s worn himself out from chasing toy mice and balls around his pen, he enjoys clambering onto the laps of the rescue centre’s dedicated staff for some well-earned chin scratches and a good snooze.

He is currently looking for his forever home, which should have a secure garden he can explore.

Skittles

Skittles is 17 years old. (Battersea Dogs & Cats Home)

Skittles, a 17-year-old Domestic Short Hair cat, is Battersea’s oldest resident.

This beautiful feline is extra special as she was born a polydactyl cat, which means she has extra toes on her paws.

Her favourite things include strokes, chin rubs, relaxing on the sofa, or snoozing in a comfy spot.

Given her old age, Skittles is looking for a quiet home where she can enjoy her golden years.

Peppadew

This little adorable 10-week-old kitten came to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home with his brother Jalapeno in May.

Given their young age, they had to be cared for by Battersea Foster Carers and now they have grown up to be two playful and loving boys.

The two brothers were adopted together and are enjoying making memories with their new family.

Ernie

Ernie has an impressive collection of jumpers. (Battersea Dogs & Cats Home)

Four-year-old Sphynx cat Ernie was a loveable gentleman who made friends with everyone he met during his time at Battersea.

While the rescue centre doesn’t recommend jumpers for most cats, Ernie wore them for medical reasons and had an impressive collection of colours and designs.

Unsurprisingly, Ernie was quickly snapped up and has been enjoying lots of cuddles with his new family ever since.

Loki

Loki is a curious cat that likes to be kept busy. (Battersea Dogs & Cats Home)

One-year-old Loki is one of Battersea’s longest-stay residents and has shown to be a real character during his time in the charity’s care.

Thanks to Battersea’s Fister Carers, Loki has spent some time in a home environment and gained lots of confidence.

He is a curious cat that loves being kept busy and treated to strokes. At food time, he has been loving the puzzle feeder.

Loki is looking for a home with access to a private garden where he can stretch his legs and go off on plenty of adventures.

Pearl

Pearl had to have a leg removed due to health reasons. (Battersea Dogs & Cats Home)

This adorable kitty named Pearl is a blind, three-legged young cat who won the hearts of everyone she met during her stay at Battersea.

On arrival, Pearl had a damaged leg and the charity’s dedicated Clinic team worked hard to ensure that she could live her life to the fullest as a happy and healthy kitten.

Pearl is a playful, friendly character that found her forever family soon after recovery. Her new owners said that Pearl “immediately made herself at home and spends almost all day playing and running around as fast as she can.”
