Bastille Day firefighters' balls in Paris and the surrounding suburbs have been cancelled owing to record high temperatures affecting the capital and most of France, as emergency workers remain on alert. Celebrations begin on Monday, with Paris having brought forward its annual fireworks display by a day to avoid clashing with commemorations marking the 10th anniversary of the Nice attack of 14 July, 2016.

Firefighters in Paris and its suburbs have decided to cancel their annual balls, as the heatwave that has hit the region and much of France has put a strain on emergency services.
