Barry Robson and the Aberdeen fan roar that underlines credentials even if Pittodrie top job evades him

Aberdeen fans made their voices known by singing the name of interim manager Barry Robson after the thumping victory over Hearts.

The Dons cruised to victory over the Jambos to put themselves just four points behind Robbie Neilson's side in third place. With Hibernian losing to Celtic at Parkhead Aberdeen moved into fourth place thanks to a double from Duk and a first goal in red for Mattie Pollock. The home side were three up inside the first half an hour and could have added to their lead in the second half with a number of clear-cut chances.

Robson has steadied the ship at Pittodrie since taking over from Jim Goodwin at the end of January, winning four of his six games in the dugout. Chairman Dave Cormack and Alan Burrows are yet to appoint a permanent replacement for Goodwin, but the new chief executive has been given plenty of food for thought after the glowing supporter response.

Robson revealed in his post-match interview that he is due to meet the board this week to discuss what happens next at Pittodrie. He said: "No, I've not spoken to them (the board). It's something you'll need to ask them.

"Let's just keep winning games. I’ve been with the club a long time. I'm from up here. I’m not bothered about them singing my name, I just want to win football matches for them. I just want them to go home happy."

So what has changed since the Robson era was ushered in? Record Sport takes a look.

The style

Robson has mentioned on a number of occasions he wants to see Aberdeen increase their speed of passing and up their energy levels. Just watching the first half yesterday compared to the first 45 minutes against Hibs in Goodwin's last game, you will see a huge difference.

The intensity levels fell in the second half as the team tired and Robson mentioned that in his post-match interview so they are clearly not at the level he wants them to be at. Robson has also shored up the defence with Pollock and Angus MacDonald proving to be shrewd signings and with the protection that Graeme Shinnie and Yiber Ramadani give, it allows the players higher up the park to express themselves more.

Experience

While Robson is yet to start his managerial career, he is being aided by Steve Agnew - his assistant during his playing days at Middlesbrough. The Englishman has been mentioned in passing by Robson on a number of occasions and it's obvious he has had a huge part to play in getting the Dons back to winning ways.

Agnew, who has worked under managers such as Steve Bruce and Aitor Karanka, looks as if he is helping Robson with the tactical side of the game which has allowed Aberdeen to change tactics successfully during games.

Duk unleashed

The Cape Verde international has proven to be a great bit of business by the recruitment team. They received some criticism earlier this year and rightly so, but Duk has been a revelation for the Dons this season. His blistering pace and strength has defences frightened but it's his work rate that will please Robson the most.

His goal against Dundee United earlier this month showed off all his attributes in one move. From winning the ball from Ryan Edwards to using his pace and strength to hold him off, it was Duk all over. By tightening up the defence it has allowed Duk to push further up the park to have more of an impact in the final third rather than simply his own half or just over the halfway line.
