Barry Ferguson brands Rangers protestors 'annoying' as he offers Allan McGregor defence after fuming reaction

Frustrated Barry Ferguson admits he would have found the Rangers fan protests during the clash with Dundee "annoying".

Away fans launched a toilet roll and tennis ball at kick-off and after 10 minutes, before a third protest after the half-time restart that set off Allan McGregor

McGregor could be heard calling the fans "f****** a*******" with TV cameras picked up on the 40-year-old's frustrations.

It's the latest bid from supporters to make their frustrations known over the controversial Sydney Super Cup and Celtic friendly in November.

Former Ibrox skipper Ferguson reckons he would have been irked by the game stoppage just like McGregor - because he would want to play the game.

However, he doesn't believe the stand from fans should have impacted on the performance from the Rangers ' players.

When asked how he would react if he was on the pitch against Dundee, he told The Go Radio Football Show: "I'd have been frustrated.

"In terms of Allan McGregor, as a player on the pitch you just want to play.

"In terms of would it disrupt the players and if it would disrupt their focus; no. I have been involved in games where there are protests, with things coming on the pitch and it stops for three or four minutes.

"Ideally, you want to play. It's not great but you've got to refocus and be professional.

"I don't think it would have upset the players in terms of trying to win a game of football, but it's more annoying than anything else.

"I understand both sides. I understand where the fans are coming from and I also understand that the club want it. Financially it's a lot of money.

"Sing, demonstrate, hold banners up, but when the tennis balls and toilet rolls start coming on it is annoying.

'It's not ideal, but Rangers overcame it."
