Barry Ferguson and the Rangers result he'd 'snap your hand off' for against Liverpool as he sets Anfield target

Barry Ferguson says he'd rip the arm off someone for a high-scoring Champions League draw between Liverpool and former club Rangers.

It's a huge match for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side in Group A as they look to claim their first points against the odds on matchday three. Last season's Europa League finalists could be doing with them after losing heavily to Ajax away from home and Napoli in Glasgow during their opening two matches.

Former club captain Ferguson is well aware of the difficulties meeting Jurgen Klopp's side will pose for Rangers, even if a stuttering start to the season does have Liverpool ninth in the table. That's why he think a draw would be a fine result ahead of the return fixture at Ibrox next midweek, telling Go Radio: "Let's not kid ourselves on. No matter how poorly Liverpool have started the season, it is going to be difficult and a big ask for Rangers.

"They have a quality manager and world-class players so it's going to be a tough night for Rangers. But what I want to see is the last time they went away in the Champions League at Ajax, they didn't lay a glove on them.

"I fully expect them to get close and make it a tough night for Liverpool. If you can keep it at 0-0, the Anfield crowd could get on the Liverpool players' backs. But it'll be a tough one for Rangers.

"The most important thing is Rangers make sure Liverpool know they're in a game, don't give them too much respect and stand off them. I hope they make a game of it.

"You want to go and pit your wits against these guys. Go and try and frustrate them. If they came away with a 2-2 draw, I'd snap your hand off right now for that."
