Barrhead couple end up in the dock after early-morning barny

A couple who got involved in an early morning domestic both ended up in the dock.

Tiffany Kane and David Stevenson both appeared separately at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday after a bizarre row led to them hitting each other.

Kane, 23, threw a tub of cream at Stevenson, 28, and scratched him before he hit back at their home in Sunnyside Place, Barrhead, on January 9.

Procurator fiscal depute Diana Barclay told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Around 5am, Stevenson was asleep on the couch as was awoken by the shouting of the accused who was in the bedroom.

“Stevenson went to the bedroom where the couple got in to an argument and Kane threw a tub of cream at him, hitting his back.

“Both Kane and Stevenson went to the living room where Kane threw a baby bottle at Stevenson and began scratching him and took hold of his neck.

“Stevenson grabbed Kane and slapped her to try and prevent her from assaulting him further.

“Stevenson contacted police.

“When police attended, they observed scratches on his face, chest and arms.

“Police also observed a tub of cream on the floor with the contents on the wall and carpet.

“Both Kane and Stevenson were taken to Cathcart police station where they both made no reply to caution and charge and were each released on an undertaking.”

Kane’s defence agent, Michael Stewart told the court how this incident was a “moment of breaking point” and explained the couple still live together and are working together to put the incident behind them.

Mr Stewart told how Kane was “extremely embarrassed” of her actions.

Anthony Callaghan represented Stevenson and also explained the couple’s living arrangements and “willingness” to take part in any programme the court felt appropriate in order to prevent similar incidents occurring.

Sheriff Lindsay Kooner said: “You’ve both taken on board very seriously the issues that arose on January 9.”

Sheriff Kooner praised the couple who have voluntarily been involved with the social work department since the incident however, placed both Kane and Stevenson under supervision for one year.
