The Barratt Foundation has donated £50,000 to the Red Cross to help with the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
The foundation is the charitable arm of Leicestershire-headquartered Barratt Developments, parent company of Barratt and David Wilson Homes and commercial property developer Wilson Bowden.
The donation to a national newspaper's Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal will go straight to the Red Cross, a partner of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) charity, which is working inside Ukraine and at its borders to ease the suffering of those caught in the conflict.
David Thomas, is chief executive of Barratt Developments and a trustee of the Foundation, said everyone had been affected by the distressing news coming out of Ukraine and the business was happy to support “the vital work the Red Cross is doing to ease suffering and helping families”.
Mike Adamson, chief executive of the British Red Cross, said: “This donation will help us reach people with food, water, medicine, medical equipment and other essentials.
“We thank you for your kind support."
In a statement Barratt Developments said it had launched the foundation to help its charitable giving which grew to £4.5 million last year.
It said: “The Barratt Foundation is committed to building strong community relationships and ensuring it creates a positive legacy that helps local communities to thrive.
“As part of its charitable giving strategy, The Barratt Foundation supports a range of local and national good causes, and encourages employees to get involved with both fundraising and volunteering.”
