Titus the T.Rex at Wollaton Hall had a very important visitor this week as antique expert Charlie Ross visited the exhibition to film an episode for the latest series of Bargain Hunt. The exhibition is on display at Wollaton Hall and showcases the first real Tyrannosaurus Rex to be displayed in England for over a century.
The life-sized dinosaur stunned by the presenter as its huge form spanned across one of the exhibition rooms featured in the new episode. The episode which is based in Southwell and features the exhibition will air on Monday, May 23 at 12:15 pm on BBC Two.
Bargain Hunt, presented by Charlie Ross, sees contestants compete against each other to find the most profitable antiques at different carboot sales before putting them up for auction.
The exhibition displays the journey of Titus' discovery including how the T-rex came to be homed at the heart of Nottingham. The skeleton travelled all the way from Montana Badlands in the US.
Rachael Evans, Museum Development Manager at Nottingham City Museums and Galleries, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Charlie and the rest of the Bargain Hunt team to Wollaton Hall and introduce them to our popular Titus T. rex is King exhibition. Titus definitely took centre stage, he’s the most treasured and charming antique after all.”
She added: “Everyone who visits is always blown away by the size of Titus when they first enter the exhibition. It’s definitely something you have to see first-hand to appreciate the scale of the dinosaur that once roamed the earth.”
Ticket sales to the Extinction and Evolution exhibition have soared since its launch earlier this year. It offers a journey through time and the prehistoric past including a look at the real-life skeleton. Highlights of the exhibition include interactive games which are designed to educate children on the dinosaurs like the T-rex.
Bargain Hunt is not the only TV show to visit Wollaton Hall as BBC's Antiques Roadshow will visit on Tuesday, June 7 to hunt for valuable antiques.
