Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed that he 'had a conversation' with Luis Diaz before the Colombian decided to sign for Liverpool.
The Reds acted swiftly to secure the winger at the end of January, paying an initial £37million to Porto which could rise to £49million. Jurgen Klopp's side hijacked what looked set to be a done deal with Tottenham Hotspur initially, pressing ahead of schedule after years of scouting in order to land their main summer target early.
Klopp's decision to press ahead with the signing paid instant dividends, with Diaz picking up an assist on his debut in the 3-1 FA Cup fourth round win against Cardiff before scoring the first of his six goals last season less than a fortnight later. But the Colombian has been missing for over a month this year after picking up a knee injury in the 3-2 defeat at Arsenal at the start of October - although he has been back running and could return for the Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City just before Christmas.
