Barbra Streisand condemns Trump over Kennedy Center name change row

  • Barbra Streisand has strongly condemned Donald Trump over his ongoing legal dispute to add his name to the Kennedy Center , describing the conflict as galling and painful to witness.
  • The legendary singer's statement came shortly after a district judge ordered that the arts institution must provide at least 30 days' notice before making any physical alterations or undertaking demolition.
  • The dispute escalated after Trump appointed himself board chair, attempted to rename the venue the Trump-Kennedy Center, and subsequently announced its immediate closure for major renovations after a court ordered his name removed from the façade.
  • Streisand accused Trump of acting out of an unchecked ego, contrasting his actions with John F. Kennedy's founding vision of the institution as a celebration of artistic freedom and democracy.
  • Concluding her message, the 84-year-old performer, who received a Kennedy Center Honour in 2008, urged Americans to vote in the upcoming November midterm elections.
