Barbra Streisand has joined Ruth Bader Ginsburg's family in criticizing the decision to award the Leadership Award, previously named after the late Supreme Court justice, to Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch, and others. Streisand, who received the honor last year when it was known as the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award, expressed her pride in accepting it in memory of the esteemed public figure. The Dwight D. Opperman Foundation, responsible for the award, changed its title this year to the Leadership Award to promote gender equality, with four out of five recipients being men.
Aside from Musk and Murdoch, the award will also be given to Michael Milken, Sylvester Stallone, and Martha Stewart, with the ceremony scheduled for April 13. Ginsburg's daughter criticized this year's choice of winners, stating that it dishonors her mother's memory. The family clarified that they do not endorse or support these awards bearing Ginsburg's name.
In her Instagram post, Streisand highlighted that Justice Sonia Sotomayor presented last year's award. Streisand emphasized the unparalleled commitment of Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor to democratic values, particularly women's rights. She echoed the Ginsburg family's disapproval of this year's honorees, expressing doubt that Justice Ginsburg would have approved of them.
