Scots actress Sharon Rooney is buzzing to be involved in the new Barbie movie.
The Glasgow-born star "still can't believe" she's able to talk about the big-budget project after months of secrecy. The cast and crew recently wrapped up filming in California and fans are eager to see the results.
Sharon, 33, joined Go Radio presenters Grado and Crofty yesterday where she opened up about the long-awaited live-action romantic comedy based on the eponymous fashion doll line by Mattel, which stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Ken and Barbie. After Grado asked what she had been working on recently, Sharon said: "I've just finished Barbie! I've spent so long keeping it a secret that I feel like I'm not allowed to say that but I am allowed to say that!
She added: "I still feel like someone's going to jump out my wardrobe and give me into trouble for saying it! But yeah, I've just wrapped on that last week but I've got a couple of weeks off before I go into my next thing which I'm not allowed to talk about!
Sharon went on to explain why fans of hit BBC Scotland comedy Two Doors Down don't get to see her in her iconic role as Sophie, the daughter of Elaine C Smith's hilarious character Christine, anymore, as she was double booked with her first ever movie, Tim Burton's 2019 live-action version of the Disney classic.
The in demand Scots star said: "I was filming Dumbo at the same time as Two Doors Down went again and I just couldn't do it at the same time!
Sharon shared the exciting news that she was involved with the Barbie production on her Instagram back in April as she posed in an all pink outfit. She wrote: "Come on Barbie let’s go party. SWIPE FOR SOME NEWS. Don’t let me ever hear you say dreams don’t come true because they do! So buy that hot pink power suit and go for your dreams because magic things happen when you believe in YOU! Barbie, the best adventure yet."
Fellow Scots actor Ncuti Gatwa, who was recently announced as the new Doctor Who, is also starring in Barbie, as is Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon and Emma Mackey.
During a recent interview, Ryan Gosling praised Gatwa for his new role in the BBC show, telling Roman Kemp: "Ncuti, I am such a big fan of Ncuti, he's the coolest! Him playing Doctor Who is the most exciting thing that's happening right now. So I'm here for it!"
Sharon, who rose to fame in My Mad Fat Diary, recently paid tribute to her Barbie co-stars in a celeb packed Instagram picture she shared after filming wrapped which included Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera.
Sharing a snap of the group of colleagues together, she said: "Barbie. A true gift."
