Barbie fans angry at Margot Robbie for using her real accent while promoting new movie

As Barbie-mania continues to grow ahead of the movie’s highly anticipated release date, some American fans have taken umbrage to star Margot Robbie using her real accent during the promo tour.

The 33-year-old Oscar-nominated actress plays “Stereotypical Barbie” opposite Ryan Gosling, 42, as “Beach Ken” in the flick based on the popular toys.

While on screen Robbie uses an American accent, in real life, she hails from from Dalby in Queensland, Australia, and has been using her own accent while doing press promotion.

Some fans took to social media to vent their frustration on the matter.

“I don’t like that on the press tour she’s using her Aussie accent as if to let others know she’s a good actress or something because her American English sounds fine,” wrote one person.

“Is she here on a working visa? She lives and works in Hollywood – and that’s where she gets her massive income from. Drop the accent,” they added.

“This is the first time I’m ever heard Margot Robbie’s real voice. I’m shocked. I thought she had an American accent this whole time. I’ve been lied too,” fumed another.

While a third penned: “I can’t be the only one who is starting to get annoyed with Margot Robbie. Put her in a movie where she uses her real accent!”

Unconvinced by their argument, some fans replied to the comment to set them right: “I think she knows Margot is Australian, it’s a ‘you’re in our country, you have to talk like us’ kind of thing,” penned one person in response.

“’Drop the accent’… umm she did, she dropped the American one, she’s going back to her default Australian accent,” remarked another.

“Honestly wonder whether this person understands how mentally exhausting it is to put on an accent that isn’t your native one,” someone else pointed out.
