Barbicore interiors: think pink with home accessories — from a heart-shaped vase to a new fushia Panton chair

Tulipiere vase, £32, from Host

(Picture: Handout)

We’re as surprised as anyone to be dedicating a homeware shopping edit to a 29cm plastic doll and yet here we are. Barbiecore has arrived.

Greta Gerwig’s hotly anticipated Barbie movie isn’t due to be released until summer 2023 and already, playful pink homeware – in every shade from fuschia to bubblegum – is the most talked-about trend we’ve seen this year.

Having said that, keep it classy, Barbie fans. Don’t accrue pink tat for the sake of it. This isn’t Barbie’s ‘80s Dreamhouse when she was fresh out of uni and just finding her feet, this is Barbie’s Dream Penthouse. She’s had a successful career and honed her taste, and sure, she still loves a bit of pink, but she’s incredibly discerning with her choices these days. Only the best for this iconic, unfathomably proportioned little lady.

No self-respecting Barbie would display flowers in anything other than a pink heart-shaped vase. Find this affordable tulipiere design for £32 from Host.

Table from Made in Design, £246 (Handout)

What would Barbie do if she was designing a table? Playful spiral base? Check. Colour of calamine lotion? Check again. This lacquered aluminium design costs £246 from Made in Design (check import duties as they’re outside the UK).

This pink pebble stack from luxury small glassware brand Vanderohe Curio is the ideal sink-side companion for your gem-emblazoned clip-on earrings (now is not the time for subtlety). You can find it in Liberty for £280.

Matilda Goad’s natural beeswax candles help to clean the air as they burn and the dusty pink colour is pure bubblegum joy. They cost £45 for six.

Fan of the iconic doll or not, it’s hard to resist the mood-boosting allure of Addison Ross’s glossy lacquered bin in bright, attention-grabbing pink. If there was such a thing as a Barbie-appropriate bin, this is it. It costs £145.

The mirror that makes other mirrors jealous: the Ultrafragola’s wavy frame and pink illumination make it just as desirable now as when it was first designed by Ettore Scottsass in 1970. It’s an investment piece at £7,320 from Alex Eagle.

Panton chair in magenta and classic red, £,1,710, at The Conran Shop (Handout)

Because life in plastic, is fantastic, Conran has launched the iconic Panton chair in an exclusive fuchsia and red duo colourway. It’s £1,710 from Verner Panton at The Conran Shop. Barbie would use this as a desk chair in her Dreamhouse office.

Glassette is the place to be for indie homewares and grown-up Barbie fans should know that this pink CommonRoom cushion with ribbon motif – £95 – is the piece to buy.

Tate & Darby’s jute chequerboard rug in shocking pink has waited its whole life for a micro-trend like this. It’s a big one too at 2x3 metres, so a real go-Barbie-or-go-home vibe. Buy yours for £725.

Dusty pink candles, £45 for six, by Matilda Goad (Handout)

An enduring piece of design from 1935 - the Utrecht chair in pink gives a tasteful nod to Barbiecore without diving in head first. Find it at Aram Store in Covent Garden for £3,042.
