Barber offering free haircuts this Christmas to help those struggling

A barber is giving out free haircuts to homeless people this December.

Wanting to give back to the community this festive period, Daniel Greenall, originally from Aintree, is giving up some of his free time this Christmas to help those who are experiencing homelessness.

The 25-year-old, who has been in the industry for just under a decade, explained that while others will be asking for the latest phone or newest gaming console for Christmas, many people won't even be able to have the luxury of a haircut. Wanting to make sure that isn't the case for some around the city, Daniel has set aside time to help lift people's spirits.

He told the ECHO : “I feel it is very important to help those who are less fortunate because a lot of the time we take what we have for granted and giving someone a haircut, providing my service just from the good of my heart, means a lot not just to me but to them. Especially around Christmas time a lot of us adults and even children ask for far too much, we can be greedy when there are people out there who only want the likes of a backpack for school or a Nivea gift set.

"We do take things for granted and greed takes over us, a lot of us have this thing of thinking Christmas is about buying as many presents or spending as much as you can just to please that person, but it's actually a time for togetherness and forgiveness. It's the happiest time of the year.”

Daniel believes his service will also act as the perfect opportunity for those who are struggling mentally to offload for a bit. Struggling with his own mental health “from time to time”, Daniel knows first-hand the impact things can have when things “get too much”.

He added: “It's important that not just youngsters but older men should be able to speak about their mental health and if they suffer from it or not. So coming down to your local barber shop is more than just having a good time, getting a fresh cut, and feeling good as a little chat can help much more than you think.

"A lot of lads suffer from mental health and will not speak about it because we think it's easier to keep it inside of us and bottle it up, but I just want people to know if there are out there, that I am here for a chat. When you sit in that chair, I am here, you can talk to me”.

Daniel is encouraging other barbers and hairdressers, not just in Merseyside, but across the UK to join in “helping our people” this Christmas. Daniel will be offering the service throughout December from Waterloo Barber Shop, St John’s Road, on Tuesday 6, Tuesday 13 from 5:30 - 7pm, and on Sunday 11 between 11am - 1pm.

He added: “We know with the cost of living crisis, things are going terribly. A simple thing like going to the barber and getting a haircut is getting harder for most of us to do. I am just wanting to do a good thing for the people of Liverpool. Just come down and ask for me.”
