  • Barack Obama has announced the death of the family's “cherished” 13-year-old Portuguese water dog, Sunny.
  • Sunny joined the Obama family in 2013 during their second term in the White House and quickly became a beloved companion.
  • In a social media tribute, Obama remembered Sunny as energetic, athletic, and protective of the family’s other dog Bo, who died in 2021.
  • “She loved the girls, even if they were pestering her when she was napping. She loved our team, and would often follow them around, helping them on the job,” he wrote.
  • Obama completed the tribute by saying: “We will miss her terribly, and imagine she’s with her big brother now, making sure he’s okay.”
