ULHASNAGAR: An Ulhasnagar based bar owner has been caught using stolen electricity of over Rs 18 lakh for last 34 months.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has caught the bar owner in a surprise raid and has served notice asking him to pay bill or else legal action will be initiated.
The action was taken after a team of Mahavitaran inspected the power supply of Ashoka Resturent and Bar at Shop No. 575 near Ulhasnagar 1 number police station.
The team found that the bar operator had installed a system to steal electricity by changing the 'B' phase of the meter.
The electricity meter is in the name of late Eknath Tulshiram Nerkar and further investigation has revealed that Bar owner Kumar Tulshiram Nerkar has illegally used 91,677 units of electricity in the last 34 months.
An MSEDCL in official press note said a notice has been issued to the bar owner regarding payment of stolen electricity and settlement of bill. If these amounts are not paid within the prescribed period, a police complaint will be filed under section 135 of the Electricity Act 2003.
