As the first of the two Cost of Living payments begin to drop into bank accounts, recipients have been left scratching their heads after checking their bank statements. The payments are arriving in the accounts of those eligible between now and the end of the month (Sunday, July 31).
The Cost of Living payment is a one off lump sum that is being paid in two parts by the government to people on low incomes. Its aim is to help combat current rising costs as fuel, food and energy costs rocket. Estimates indicate that some 551,000 families in the East Midlands will be eligible for means-tested payment with a further 451,000 in the region eligible for the £150 disability Cost of Living payment in the Autumn.
The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) is offering a £650 payment which will be made in two lump sum instalments. The first instalment of £326 is now dropping into accounts . However, it is the wording on statements that has got some recipients pondering.
