An astonishing 90 bank branches are shutting by the end of August - 12 of which are based in Scotland. Face-to-face banking will become more difficult for Scots bankers and the rest of the UK.
The news comes from cash machine network Link, which offers updates on the number of banks shutting outlets - and Link data shows that 90 banks are closing branches between now and August 31 alone.
This year, more than 200 branches will close, affecting a number of well known banks including Lloyds, Barclays, and NatWest. Branches are closing due to a lack of footfall, which make branches too costly to keep open.
Banks say more customers are choosing to bank online rather than go to in-person branches. Closures have left some communities in other countries with no bank branch at all.
Around 2,300 people on the Isle of Scilly now have to take a plane or ferry to use a bank branch as their last remaining bank shut in April. Here is the the list of banks closing in Scotland and the rest of the UK, including the date they shut up shop for good, as reported by the Mirror.
