Keeping your bathroom towels soft and fluffy can be a real struggle, as they become more and more rough each time they go through the washing machine.
This 'crunchy' effect can be down to a build-up of laundry detergent that's hard to get rid of as it's found in every wash.
But instead of throwing out your old towels and forking out for new ones, which can be pricey, there's a much more cost effective way to restore them and all it requires is a common kitchen ingredient you probably already have in your cupboard.
The Express spoke to home expert Sarah Dempsey from myjobquote to find out how people can make their towels perfectly soft again at home, and apparently white vinegar is enough to do the trick.
"To prevent towels from going crunchy add a cup of white vinegar to your wash," she said. "This helps to break down the build-up of detergent residue on your towels which makes them stiff and crunchy."
The staple household product contains acetic acid, which trips soap residue from the towels making them fluffy and soft again. White vinegar can be bought for as little as 29p from Tesco if you don't already have it at home.
However, to nip this problem in the bud before it even happens, another expert says that it could all be down to how you dry your towels, and suggested a different solution.
Sam Whigham, founder of eco laundry brand Wilton London said hard water and air-drying towels could be the problem.
He suggested homeowners use a small amount of fabric conditioner or their tumble driers to make towels soft.
The expert said: "This is often caused by hard water, and is most common in air-dried laundry.
"Simple fixes are using a little fabric conditioner (not too much, as this can have an effect on absorbency).
"Dry [them] outside. The movement from the wind will help break up the stiffness when drying. Or, put them in the tumble dryer, they nearly always come out soft.
"Sometimes I air dry my towels then throw them in the dryer for 15 minutes to soften up."
