Bandoh pair Sena Sakaguchi and Yuji Kunimoto had secured pole for Wednesday's 450km race, leading a front-row lockout for tyre supplier Yokohama ahead of the Kondo Racing Nissan Z.

However, any hopes of a first GT500-class win for Yokohama since 2016 were once again quickly dashed as both of its cars went backwards at the very start of the race.
