The Collar Is the Whole Argument
The single physical difference between a Bandhgala and a Nehru jacket is the collar, and it determines everything else about how each garment sits, reads, and fits into an occasion. The Bandhgala has a stand collar that is stitched shut at the front, it rises straight from the neckline, meets at the centre, and fastens with buttons or a hook-and-eye closure. The Nehru jacket has a short folded collar, sometimes called a mandarin collar, that sits open at the front and does not close at the throat. Run your finger along the top edge of each garment: on a Bandhgala, the collar is a continuous band with no gap. On a Nehru jacket, there is a visible notch or open space where the two collar halves meet at the front. That gap is the tell.
