Band of volunteers team up to rid one area of Newmains of rubbish

A hardy band of volunteers helped rid one area of Newmains of rubbish.

Wheels, tyres, bags of clothes and even a hot tub were found by members of the Woodland Clean-up group as they cleared land near flats at Fiddoch Court in Newmains of rubbish.

The group have been busy over the past couple of years tidying up areas in and around the village and this time was no exception.

A spokesman for the Woodland Clean-up posted on its Facebook page: “Big thanks to Mitie Care and custody for the use of their brand new pickup which we used to get the abandoned hot tub.

“Also to Jordan with the quad and trailer, thank you as we couldn’t have moved half the stuff without your help.

“A great day helped with some of the local community and another area a lot tidier.”

Murdostoun councillor Cameron McManus joined the group along with fellow SNP council candidate Julia Stachurska.

Councillor McManus said: “We had a good group of volunteers and the team did a great job.

“It was unbelievable the amount of rubbish that we found in just three hours.

“I even found a Cheryl Cole CD. I’m not a fan of her music but just put it in the bin!

“The Woodland Clean-up do an absolutely fantastic job.

“I wish they didn’t have to do it but the work they do is remarkable.”
