Band of angry parents refusing to send their children to 'dumping ground' secondary school

A band of angry parents are refusing to send their kids to secondary school after they were offered places at schools far away. The parents are refusing to accept the school places and are calling on the local council to find them places closer to home.

All of the children and parents are from Manchester, more specifically from the Wythenshawe, M22/M23 area. They applied for various schools for their Year 7 kids, all of which fall under Trafford Council - including Sale High, Altrincham College and Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College.

In previous years they say there's never been a problem getting places at such schools, as despite them being under a different local authority, they are closer to those than many Manchester schools. Among them is Angela Davies whose daughter Maisie went to Lime Tree Primary in Sale and said there 'was never any indication there would be an issue going from a Trafford primary to a high school', the Manchester Evening News reports.
