Baldy Breakdown: Giants have something in Jalin Hyatt

The New York Giants wrapped up their preseason with a 32-24 loss to the New York Jets on Saturday night, and the game featured many of their young stars and new additions.

Perhaps most notably, the exhibition finale provided the first opportunity for fans to see rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt go up against second-year cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner.

The Giants sent Hyatt at Sauce from the jump and Round 1 went to the rookie.

Hyatt stutter-stepped Gardner and then used his speed to create a few yards of separation. Unfortunately for the Giants, quarterback Tyrod Taylor was unable to hit him in stride.

Round 2 went to Sauce, who was able to stay close to Hyatt and record a pass deflection.

It was a tiny glimpse of what is to come.

Retired offensive lineman Brian Baldinger liked what he saw and looks forward to the regular season matchup on October 29.

The arrival of linebacker Isaiah Simmons also caught Baldy’s attention. He previously broke down the veteran’s film and did so again following the Saturday night game.

“Wink (Martindale) wins that one. And Isaiah Simmons is a pass rusher,” Baldinger said.

There’s a lot to be excited about for the Giants in 2023, and that includes both Hyatt and Simmons.
