When it comes to Baldur's Gate 3, every companion has its audience – but the party member that has arguably managed to accrue the most criticism from fans is Wyll, as many feel he's lacking in content compared to the others.
It's not easy being a Wyll truther, as it often seems like he was forgotten during development – or, at least, when he's compared to the other Baldur's Gate 3 companions, it certainly does.
He does have a compelling storyline, Mizora and all things considered, but there's just not as much going on romance-wise… and Larian Studios knows it, too. Speaking in a recent edition of Edge, writer Kevin VanOrd shares his own thoughts.
"I wish I could have done more with Wyll," he admits. "I would love to have a friendship system in addition to a romance system, where you get special events like dates. And I think it would have been really cool for characters to have romances with each other, outside of the player."
But, alas, there simply wasn't enough time for Larian to pull such feats off. "We had a lot of great ideas that never made it into the game because of time constraints."
VanOrd's echoing what he's said previously here. Earlier this year, he stated, "I wish Wyll had gotten more content and a more fulfilling arc, too" – which sounds a whole lot like his current sentiment on the too-oft forgotten party member. The writer had explained, "Wyll's content is sparser than I'd have liked."
I'd say the community agrees, judging by threads on Reddit and the like. Folks have frequently flagged their disappointment with the character's arc.
It's sad to read, especially as Baldur's Gate 3 received its "final" big update, Patch 8, in 2025. Companions like Wyll (and Karlach, sorry) will have to persevere with what they've already got… but perhaps there's hope in the Baldur's Gate 3 TV show?
