Divinity fans have apparently worked out a big mystery Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke had given us to solve, and although the devs still haven't confirmed what the answer is, there's definitely no way this new easter egg was an accident.
Last week, ahead of the big Divinity 'Ask Me Anything' session on Reddit, Baldur's Gate 3 boss Vincke came forth with a challenge for content creator WolfheartFPS. "If you can figure out my header Wolfheart I'll let you ask one special question," he promised. And that header? A bright red image, with a wobbly, green and yellow bar down the middle.
Well, it didn't take folks to figure out that whatever we were looking at appeared to be a spectrogram – Vincke was most likely teasing something with the visual representation of a sound. Suggestions came in thick and fast – some attempted to convert the image back into audio (we tried this ourselves at GamesRadar+ HQ, only to be met with loud static), while others attempted to guess what the sounds could be. One of my favorite theories was that it could be the old Larian jingle.
Alas, clearly no answer satisfied Vincke before the AMA, as he was directly asked about it there. "I thought it was going to be easy to find. Perhaps having a really good look at the high quality version of the trailer will help," he suggested at the time.
Well, apparently in the hours that followed, someone worked it out. Over on Twitter, Larian's director of publishing, Michael Douse, was also quizzed about the mystery: "Now that we didn't figure out in time, whats up with the Spectrogram?" However, he says, "As I understand, somebody did."
So, what was it? Well, Larian still doesn't appear to have given anyone a metaphorical gold medal, but there was some heavy detective work following Vincke's hint to look at the trailer again. Replying on Reddit, one user asks, "It's the monolith at minute 2:28?"
They share their own screenshot of a spectrogram, apparently using the audio from the Divinity reveal trailer, which shows that during a brief silence in the trailer, you can see the pattern of the Hellstone. Looking at it side by side with Vincke's header image, it appears that the director shared the part directly after this easter egg. (This same screenshot has been shared on Twitter, below.)

Elsewhere on Reddit, some have been pondering if this could have any further meaning. "Hellstone in the trailer spectrogram at 2:28 from Swen tweet. Something will happen on the 28th of February? Release on 2028 February?" one theorizes.

I'd certainly be shocked if the Hellstone easter egg wasn't the answer Vincke was looking for, but whether it holds any further hints or surprises is another matter. It's still cool to watch the community band together, though, and I can almost guarantee folks are going to be trying this with every Larian trailer going forward, just in case.
