This has been an exceptionally good year for indie games. Over the course of twelve months, we’ve had the Yorkshire flavoured, irreverent Thank Goodness You’re Here! We’ve had Harold Halibut, the sweet, stop-motion themed game about a mechanic on a far-away planet.
And then there’s Balatro: the fiendishly addictive poker game that has dominated the awards discourse this year. In addition to winning several coveted Game Awards — for Best Independent and Indie Game, among other things — it’s also been nominated for tens more. 32 total, in fact.
