Balaclava-wearing teen who shot boy, 15, in unprovoked attack in Hackney jailed for 11 years

A teenager who shot a boy in the leg unprovoked in Hackney has been jailed for eleven years.

Kamaree Jeffrey was wearing a balaclava and riding an e-bike when he approached the victim, aged fifteen, and a group of his friends on May 25 last year in Haggerston’s Garden Place.

The 19-year-old demanded to know if they were members of a local gang.

In fear of either violence or robbery, the group attempted to run from Jeffrey.

Following this, Jeffrey raised a gun in his hand, pointed it at the fleeing group and fired a shot, at the same time warning them to stay out of the area.

The shot hit one of the boys, a fifteen-year-old in the leg, and left him requiring surgery.

Jeffrey, 19, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court for trial on January 22 2024, where he was found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and Section 18 grievous bodily harm.

On Monday, 5 August he was sentenced at the same court to 11 years and will also be placed on extended licence for four years upon his release.

Met Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Ireland said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a group of innocent youngsters.

“My Trident teams work in conjunction with local policing teams to prioritise the removal of lethal barrelled firearms, and those who carry or manufacture them, from the streets of London. I am pleased that Kamaree Jeffrey is no longer a danger to innocent members of the public.

“I also hope that the sentence brings some comfort to the victim and his family, in the knowledge that justice has been served.”
