Three this season an opposing player has won conference player of the week honors after facing the Arizona Cardinals. After San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes and running back Christian McCaffrey had 187 total yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in a 45-29 win over the Cardinals in Week 15, it looked like it could happen a fourth time.
It didn’t. The NFL announced its conference players of the week for Week 15 and neither Purdy nor McCaffrey won NFC offensive honors. Instead, it was Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, who passed for 381 yards an four touchdowns in a 34-20 win over the Green Bay Packers. He had a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in the game.
Mayfield became just the third player in NFL history to pass for 375 or more yards, have four or more touchdown passes and a perfect passer rating in a road game.
It is deserving.
McCaffrey won player of the week for Week 4 against the Cardinals. Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase won it for the AFC in Week 5 after facing the Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams most recently won NFC offensive honors for his Week 12 game against Arizona.
The Week 15 conference players of the week are all below.
