The Denver Broncos are set to go on the road this week to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ahead of that showdown, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield has been full of praise for Broncos star cornerback Pat Surtain.
Surtain followed D.K. Metcalf in Week 1 and George Pickens in Week 2. He’s now expected to cover Mike Evans in Week 3.
“That’s what a guy like Pat Surtain can offer a defense – true, one-on-one, shut one side of the field down,” Mayfield said, via Scott Smith of the Bucs’ official website. “He’s that type of player. He’s got unbelievable ball skills, he can run with guys, he understands concepts and can read the patterns really well.
“He’s a guy that is going to have his PBUs and make plays on the ball, but we have to design things to be able to get Mike some matchups other than just him. We also trust Mike in one-on-one scenarios regardless.”
Tampa Bay also has Chris Godwin, another talented receiver who usually lines up in the slot, so he’ll often face Ja’Quan McMillian.
“They’re both dynamic in their own right,” Surtain said of Evans and Godwin. “Mike, he’s a great player. He’s done it like you said, consistently over the years, and Godwin does it at a high level as well, too. We definitely have [an] eye out for those two and I think we have a great plan moving forward towards the week.”
Pleasantries exchanged, Surtain and the Bucs will face off on Sunday.
