Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield might not be the frontrunner for the starting job that he was thought to be.
As Mayfield has been competing with quarterback Kyle Trask for the starting job in Tampa, FOX Sports NFC South beat reporter Greg Auman noted that Mayfield has thrown seven interceptions in nine training camp sessions this summer.
While Mayfield has much more starting experience than Trask, the Florida alum might have the freshness and potential that Mayfield won’t have at this stage in his career.
If Mayfield still struggles in preseason with turning the ball over and Trask shows poise in the pocket, it’s entirely possible that he’ll earn the starting gig with the Buccaneers this year.
Another pick today for Baker Mayfield, as corner Jamel Dean gets an interception on low throw in 7-on-7. That’s seven INTs in nine practices for Mayfield.

While we won’t know more about how this battle will go until Tampa Bay takes to the field this month for preseason reps, it’s not at all a guarantee that Mayfield will start this fall for the Bucs.
If he keeps turning the ball over, his odds will decrease by the practice.
